OUR BEGINNINGS

How it began and what it is today

Scrap to Gold began in October 2001 as the brainchild of Rio Tinto Iron Ore and WA Truck and Machinery Repairs to collect and sell scrap metal for recycling and donating the profits to the St Vincent de Paul Society Western Australia to support their mental health services.

In its first year of operation the program raised a modest $390, today and with the support of a dedicated committee the program raises over $100,000 annually.

Vincentcare HomeScrap metal is donated from a diverse range of places including machinery, hospitals, machinery, engineering and mining companies.

The program recently expanded to include the collection of vehicle batteries. Collection points are in both metropolitan and rural areas, where the public can dispose of vehicle batteries in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.
